Final Conference “Innovative Curriculum in Smart Agriculture Through Satellite and Remote Sensing Data in Southeast Asia” in January 8-12, 2024

The final conference “Innovative Curriculum in Smart Agriculture Through Satellite and Remote Sensing Data in Southeast Asia” under the AgriSAT project, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, was jointly organized by the National University of Lao (NUoL) and Souphanouvong University (SU) for five days in Vientiane and Luong Prabang, Laos. In Vientiane, the event took place from January 8 to 9, 2024 at NUoL, then continued at SU in Luong Prabang from January 10 to 12, 2024. At NUoL, the closing event was chaired by the President of NUoL together with a representative from the Department of Agriculture Land Management (DALAM), while at SU it was chaired by the Vice President of SU.

The main specific objectives of the closing event are to disseminate the results of the AgriSAT project to relevant audiences, including students, deans of relevant agricultural faculties, other related departments, collaborating higher education institutions, government agencies and private companies. The final event was attended by delegates from the EU partners from VUB, UPC, Weihenstephan-Triesdorf, UZ and Opegieka, students and lecturers from Laos including NUoL and SU, and lectures from Cambodia including RUA, NUBB and UHST, with a total of more than 100 participants.

The event included dissemination of project results of each work package, achievements, future plans of each partner and other related GIS and Smart Agriculture achievements and lessons learned, including application of GIS/remote sensing in agricultural land use management; makerbox and Agri-sensing and information dissemination; Application of multispectral UAVs for agricultural research and surveying; Application of GIS/remote sensing in village forest management; Application of UAVs, GIS/remote sensing in land surveying; Conducting local training on the utilization of remote sensing data; Real-time monitoring (Internet of Things).

The AgriSAT 14th Management meeting was held on 15th December 2023 at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb, Croatia. The meeting was conducted by physically and online with participated by VUB: Prof. Dr. Jonathan CHAN, UPC: Prof. Dr. Emilio Gil (Online), UNIZG: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hrvoje Kutnjak Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivana Sestak, Oprgieka: Ms. Katarzyna DLUGOKECKA (Online), NUBB: Ms. Sreynget LO, RUA: Mr. Teamhy SIEN, UHST: Ms. Sreylen MEAS, NUOL: Dr. Souliya Mounnarath and SU: Mr. Vanglee Phengxay (Online). The main objective of the meeting is to discuss for preparation of the end-up project in Laos in January 2024 and another discussion on challenges and problem-solving.

AgriSAT Students’ Competition and Seminar on Business Idea 11-14 December 2023

Zagreb, Croatia, on 11-14 December 2023, the Faculty of Agriculture of University of Zagreb, organized a five-day seminar on “AgriSAT Students ‘Competition and Seminar on Business Idea” within the frame of the Erasmus+ AgriSAT project-INNOVATIVE CURRICULUM IN SMART AGRICULTURE THROUGH SATELLITE AND REMOTE SENSING DATA IN SEA. The activities of the event include 1) five days of seminar on agribusiness idea, 2) students’ pitch competition and 3) project management meeting.

The seminar was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hrvoje Kutnjak and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivana Sestak, University of Zagreb faculty of Agriculture, Croatia; Prof. Dr. Emilio Gil Moya, Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Spain; Prof. Dr. Jonathan Cheung-Wai Chan, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, and Dr. Paulina Stepniak, Opegieka Ltd, Poland. This seminar was also participated by 4 lecturers and 10 students from difference university include: Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), University of Heng Samrin Tboung Khmum (UHST), National University of Battambang (NUBB), Cambodia, and National University of Lao (NUOL) and Souphanouvong University (SU), Lao.

A project dissemination and stakeholder meeting was held on 3 November 2023 at the National University of Battambang, Battambang Province, Cambodia. The​​ meeting focus was on the needs, challenges and future perspectives of relevant partners, including government institution and private sector, which involved service providers from ASR Cambodia Co., Ltd, Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture, Greenman Agro Mobilizer Co., Ltd and Neak Meas Agricultural Drone in Cambodia.

TT6: Development of Transferable Curriculum: Piloting of Transferable Courses Online/Offline

The 6th Technical Training on “Development of Transferable Curriculum: Piloting of Transferable Courses Online/Offline” was held from 30 October to 03 November 2023 at the National University of Battambang, Battambang Province, Cambodia. University partners from SU, NUoL, RUA, UHST, NUBB, UPC, Zagreb, HSWT and Opegieka participated in this TT. Main activities from this event are:

  • Test drone at NUBB farm to get real data for applies smart agriculture in SE (project based) Mosaicking of the data,
  • Student compition online/offline on related topics on agricultural science technique for business,
  • Supskill on drone operation and utilization for precision agriculture (drone-based spraying), an international standard on drone pesticide application
  • Development of transferable curriculum/courses
  • Dissemination and Sustainability
  • Field visit to Women Agriculture Network in Banan
